Workshop for journalists within the project “Belarus on the road to the WTO: Problems and Prospects”

On October 8, a workshop for journalists was held in Minsk within the project “Belarus on the road to the WTO: Problems and Prospects”. CASE was represented by one of our fellows, Irina Tochitskaya, who is the scientific coordinator of the project, as well as the author of the study “Belarus’ WTO Accession: Impact on Domestic Business”. Other speakers included Irina Kolesnikova, Georgeta Mincu, Veronika Movchan, Elena Leontyeva and Olga Ponizova.

Panelists discussed the impact of WTO accession on economic development of new member countries, with particular emphasis on the economies of Ukraine, Moldova and Russia. Moreover, they debated the social consequences of WTO accession, focusing mainly on its impact on households.

The project’s aim is to strengthen an inclusive and empowered society in Belarus by supporting non-state actors and businesses and promoting participation of citizens in decision and policy making and contributing to the democratization process. The workshop was one of nine activities undertaken within the project.
