The EUROMED region after the Arab Spring and the new generation of DCFTAs

Ahmed Farouk Ghoneim, CASE Fellow, took part in the workshop "The EUROMED region after the Arab Spring and the new generation of DCFTAs", organized by the Directorate General for External Policies (European Parliament) in Brussels on June 18th, 2013. The workshop examined the economic context of the Arab Spring. Mr Ghoneim presented his paper on “Economic Causes and Effects of the ‘Arab Uprising’”, in which he attempted to identify economic causes behind the Arab Spring in Arab South Mediterranean countries (MED) by reviewing the economic situation in MED countries prior to the uprising and by summarising their trade and economic relationships with the European Union. He also discussed various possible scenarios for future EU-MED relations and provided suggestions as to the most beneficial solutions.
