'Pro Democratia' International Economic Advisory Group

The task of the International Economic Advisory Group organized and financed by the 'Pro Democratia' Foundation was to provide technical support for the Prime Minister, Government of Romania and the National Bank of Romania in preparation and implementation of economic reforms in this country.

The specific topics included strategy of economic reform, monetary and fiscal policy, macroeconomic forecasting, social policy, pensions reform, privatization and restructuring of infrastructure sectors, restructuring of the coal industry, restructuring of commercial banks, tax reform, foreign trade and balance of payments.

Georges de Menil was Project Director and Constantin Zaman - Project Manager. CASE team of experts included Marek Dabrowski (Co-ordinator), Leszek Balcerowicz, Jaroslaw Bauc, Barbara Blaszczyk, Andrzej Cylwik, Jaroslaw Neneman, Ryszard Petru and Irena Topinska working on a part-time basis, and Michal Gorzynski, Maryla Maliszewska and Wojciech Maliszewski working as resident experts in Bucharest.
