Georges de Menil

Member of the CASE Advisory Council

Georges de Ménil is a Professor of Economics at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS) in Paris, and a member of its research center, DELTA, which he helped found. He is Co-Founder and Senior Editor of the quarterly review Economic Policy: A European Forum.

From 1997 through 2000, he was the Economic Advisor for three successive Prime Ministers of Romania and Director of the Private Pension Reform Task Force of the Ministry of Labor in Bucharest. In 1995 and 1996, he co-directed a group of economic advisors for the Government and President of Ukraine. He was formerly Head of the Quarterly Forecasting Model Group of the Ministry of Finance in Paris and served many years on the Board of Directors of Schlumberger Ltd.

He has written extensively about stabilization policies and European integration. His books include "Economic Summitry" (with Anthony Solomon), "Stabilization Policy in France and the Federal Republic of Germany" (with Uwe Westphal) and "Ukrainian Economic Reform: The Unfinished Agenda" (with Anders Aslund).  He recently edited "Quelle Constitution pour l'Europe?" (with Thierry Chopin) and has written articles on the European Constitution in several papers, including the Financial Times, the Wall Street Journal Europe and Suddeutsche Zeitung. 

Professor de Ménil received his B.A. in History from Harvard University and received his Ph.D. in Economics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
