About the seminar:

Financing sustainable growth is becoming one of the main long-term priorities of the European Union. This step follows the broader formulation of the growth challenges that will appear over the next few decades (as described in the Energy and Climate Framework 2030). The search for new sources of financing, and the reorientation of existing sources, is a manifestation of the transition from the “ideological” or visionary stage to the practical instruments for implementing it. This also describes the document prepared by the Expert Group appointed by the European Commission at the end of 2016. The recommendations published in January this year, in the report titled Financing a Sustainable European Economy*) show the complicated, comprehensive but also achievable nature of the transformation of the economic growth model toward what is described as long-term sustainable development.

The seminar will feature presentations of selected recommendations from the Report by a member of the EC’s Expert Group, Mieczysław Groszek, and a discussion of them by the remaining two panelists. Maciej Bukowski will explain why the need for sustainable growth in Europe is irrefutable and will explain what the consequences of this will be for the financial sector. Dariusz Winek will address the question of integrating the financial sector into pro-environmental campaigns. He will also refer to the concept of the circular economy and how it is financed (the European agenda).
