CASE is looking to recruit an outstanding and experienced tax economist/tax policy expert. The successful applicant will be expected to take an active role in impact assessments, evaluations and research projects on tax policy. He or she will be able to lead and participate in top quality research, and manage a team of economists working on joint assignments.

The work of Fiscal Department at CASE covers a wide range of issues, in that impacts of tax policy on tax compliance, VAT and excise design, fiscal federalism, administrative and enforcement costs of taxation and international taxation issues.

 

Responsibilities:

  • lead multiple research-based initiatives in the area of Fiscal Department’s strategic initiatives,
  • contribute to tax policy analysis through economic modelling,
  • development of country-specific tax policy recommendations,
  • draft papers and reports related to the work areas identified above.
  • manage and deliver complex projects to quality, cost, and time standards,
  • engage with stakeholders, maintain contacts with national administrations, international organisations, and other stakeholders,
  • representing CASE on meetings, participate in meetings, seminars, conferences and briefings,
  • supervise junior staff and encourage their development.

Skills and Experience:

  • good knowledge of quantitative methods of research in economics,
  • knowledge and practical experience in using impact assessment tools, in that Standard Cost Model and Cost Benefit Analysis,
  • familiarity with EU Better Regulation Toolbox,
  • excellent written and oral communication in English,
  • problem-solving abilities and ability to multi-task and work flexibly in a fluid environment.

Qualifications:

  • at least 5 years’ experience in the research area,
  • PhD in economics would be an asset.

Contract duration:

  • Eight-month fixed term appointment, with the possibility of renewal.
