Daniel Daianu is a professor of economics at the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (SNSPA) in Bucharest, and chairman of the Romanian Economic Society. He is a former finance minister of Romania and former Member of the European Parliament, where he worked extensively on reform of financial market regulation and supervision. In June 2014 he was elected a member of the Board of the National Bank of Romania. Between April 2013 and June 2014, Dăianu was first deputy president of the Romanian Financial Supervision Authority. His research stints include the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development and the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe. He has been a visiting professor at the University of California (Berkeley and Los Angeles). His latest book is “Which way goes capitalism?” (2009) Budapest/New York, CEU Press.
